The fight between the social networking sites....

LinkedIn is the business meeting, Facebook is the hallway conversation and Twitter is the cocktail party. - Scott Monty

So it looks like FACEBOOK is getting a run for its money with the addition of Google+ now... I thought LinkedIn would take over but not quite yet... I still see LI as my 'business social network' which has a place too but there - for the time being - does seem to be a crossover of the two on Google+... Twitter Im still reserving judgement on because i still see that as an even bigger waste of time really than all the rest... What are your thoughts?? The list is never ending and ever growing... ASW still has its place as the Tatler of the social networking with people not quite willing to leave the prestige of the 'look how rich I am' site and join the masses on the slightly lesser poncey Facebook world; myspace is pretty much done now; beebo... well does ANYONE actually use that yet and as for Friends ReUnited...?? So is Google+ going to replace FB or do we just add it to our list?

Im thinking a list of three... FB, LI and now Google+... but given that I do also have a slightly poncy side I cant quite let go of my ASW roots - which to all extents and purposes was my baby given that it started before myspace and I never converted then... so maybe a list of four.... but thats not even including the music sites and they tick a whole range of different boxes....

Anyway... there are more things to worry about in the world I know this of course... just intrigued to know your thoughts.... :-)

  1. Not sure that Google+ is actually trying to go head to head with Facebook... I think it's intended to be complementary rather than a replacement. That said, I like the "circles" idea... one of the pitfalls of FB is thaft people are either friends or not-friends.... no degrees or levels. G+ Circles does seem to get around that... no longer have to worry about your work colleagues / family knowing what you got up to Saturday night... or who with (unless you want them to....)

IMHO, ASW will possibly disappear up its own backside; elitism is dead in this dumbed-down egalitarian world ... quantity is everything, quality is nothing...(I don't necessarily believe that, just playing devil's advocate) ;-)

  2. me too... thats the only reason I wrote this blog....

Google+ essentially has failed in its start to become a competitor to FB... The NEW "Google Me" will actually end up being the competitor that could cause some problems... I think they will up the anti of youtube and connect that more with Google Me... The theory is that FB is a 'pretend' impression of peoples lives, and that Google Me will be a more realistic representation of the person... However, that could screw peoples careers and social credit rather than help LOL... I think the benefit eventually that will win in Googles favour will be that people trust the company more than FB... We shall see ;-)
